With a view to maintaining and enhancing the quality of ergonomics/human
factors practices, and also disseminating the ergonomics/human factors
discipline, the Program was established in August 2004 to certify ergonomics
practitioners whose ergonomics knowledge, techniques, and problem-solving
abilities satisfy a predefined set of criteria.
The Program is operated by the JES Committee on Certification of
Professional Ergonomists all of which members hold credentials. An administrating body composed of chair, vice-chair, and officers elected from the Committee members governs the Program under the supervision of the Committee Assembly and the JES board of Directors.
The Program gives credentials to the members (or the honorary members)
of JES who are ergonomics practitioners and satisfy any of the following
criteria:
1. Received more than three years of professional ergonomics/human factors
training at collage or graduate school, experienced more than two years
of ergonomics job practices, and successfully passed a written examination
and an interview
2. Received a collage degree, experienced more than seven years of ergonomics
job practices, and successfully passed a written examination and an interview
3. Received a collage degree, experienced more than ten years of ergonomics
job practices, and successfully demonstrated three full-fledged ergonomics
practices

The JES Certification Program for Professional Ergonomists was established
to certify those who are able to provide world-class ergonomics/human factors
practices. Ergonomics is an important asset to our lives, and it is ergonomics
practitioners' duty to conduct ergonomics appropriately. I hope as many
as possible ergonomics practitioners will be certified by this Program,
and they will fulfil the important role given to ergonomics in the society,
and join an effort to enhance social values of ergonomics and ergonomics
practitioners.
